600 Young athletes descend on Carndonagh for Donegal Cross Country Finals!
What a fantastic celebration of young sporting talent in Inishowen!
Around 600 primary school pupils, representing more than 60 schools from across Donegal, gathered at the Showgrounds in Carndonagh on Thursday, 15 October, for the Donegal Primary Schools Cross Country Finals.
Hosted by Inishowen Athletics Club, with Pauric McKinney involved in organising the event, the championships brought together young runners who had qualified through regional competitions across the county.
Despite soft ground underfoot, the young athletes put in tremendous performances, with several Inishowen schools featuring among the leading finishers.
Among the local successes were Molly O'Brien of Cranford National School, who won the Under 9 girls' race, and Maebh Ward of Scoil Mhuire, Malin Head, who took first place in the Under-13 girls' event.
A special mention must go to the organisers, volunteers, teachers, parents and everyone who helped make the event possible.
Congratulations to every young athlete who took part. It's wonderful to see so many children enjoying sport and representing their schools with pride.
Were your children or grandchildren competing? Give their school a shout out in the comments!
